Youths In Balaclava
I first encountered Youths in Balaclava on the streets of Singapore while working on an assignment for the opening of Dover Street Market. Fascinated by their rebellious aesthetic and subversive creativity, we began making pictures together, culminating in the photo book Youths in Balaclava. This project, which captured their raw energy, began an ongoing relationship. And I later accompanied YIB to Paris Fashion Week and continued to document their journey from Singapore's underground scene to the international fashion stage. The work emphasizes the tension between their underground ethos and the global fashion industry's demands, while also highlighting their collaborative, authentic creative process.
